MORE than 8000 people flocked to Leonardslee Gardens near Horsham last weekend (31 May/1 June) to enjoy the masses of attractions at the Kidz Stuff Festival organised and run by Horsham Rotary Club and Event Management Company Terbell Ltd with proceeds going to local Charity Action Medical Research.

Once again the weather was kind.  After a wet week, the sun shone for the thousands of children of all ages who enjoyed themselves watching the circus and clown shows; chatting with guest stars from CBeebies Chris Jarvis and Sarah Jane Honeywell; playing in the Sports Village; being amazed by science shows from Professor Heinz Wolff , the Science Museum, The Royal Observatory and Brighton Science; learning new skills with Fred's Flying Circus; having birds of prey land on their arms;  riding donkeys; jumping, bouncing, climbing and sliding ; and at the end of the Festival on Sunday, being spellbound, and maybe a little frightened, by Big Pete's Monster Trucks.

The Friday of the Festival (30 May) called 'Access All Areas' was a special day for children with special needs together with their parents, friends, siblings and carers..... and a magnificent time was had by all. It was summed up in the words of some of the mums:

"My boys loved it and I would never have believed that six hours in a muddy field could be such fun. It was a very special atmosphere and a day full of fun and happiness. We will definitely come along next year."

"Thank you for a wonderful time.....it was so well organised and run, that we alll had a lovely day....everyone passed comment on how friendly the staff, stewards and helpers were. Everyone went out of their way to ensure it was a great day."

"Everyone had a brilliant day.... there was something for everyone."

"The kids and adults all had a fabulous fun packed day...it is certainly one of the highlights of the year."

"We had a fabulous fun packed day which was helped by all the enthusiastic marshals/helpers: we managed a whole day with no upsets or 'breakdowns' by any of the boys which does not happen very often...... we will definitely be coming back next year."

The other new 'event' at Kidz Stuff 08 was a sleepover...as well as two days of Kidz Stuff a number of brave families ignored the Saturday evening forecast of showers and opted to stay at the Festival under canvas.

The children were occupied in a  series of fun activities led by ex-SAS stuntman Steve Truglia before sitting around the campfire for dinner.

Steve then enthralled everybody with the details of his planned  jump from the edge of space in a few week's time....hopefully he survives to be able to tell us the tale of it next year !

After more singing and games , eveyone crashed out in their tents and the exhaustion seemed to make them oblivious to the rain that arrived a couple of hours later ....luckily the showers passed over before KIds Stuff started again on Sunday morning.
